Saucony Perigrin 8

Gear: Saucony Perigrine 8

April 10, 2019 by Stephen Hallgren in Reviews, Gear

The Saucony Perigrine 8 was my first trail running shoe ever and I wore them for my first 50 mile ultramarathon, which happened to be my first ultramarathon ever.

My choice to purchase the Perigrine 8 wasn’t very scientific. I started trail running this year and was mainly motivated by finding a cheap, but quality shoe, just in case this was a passing fad for me.

Even though I have no other trail running shoes to compare to I really enjoyed the feel of the Perigrine 8. The shoe feels very soft, yet snug, on my feet and the soles have great traction. A lot of the trails I run on are composed of sand and rocks, and I felt like I was getting the most out of each stride regardless of the terrain.

One thing that I marvel at is that I did not get a single blister on my 50 mile race. While my feet are tough, I expected something to happen, but nothing did. I’m pretty sure this was a testament to the soft, but snug fit on my feet.

My main disappointment with the Perigrine 8 is that the fabric over the pinky toe area rubbed through in a single race. Most of the shoe has a protective coating to prevent rocks from tearing the fabric, but I guess the pinky toe area got left out of the party.
