Truax Trail Barrens
As you leave the trailhead on Kings Road behind you, imagine stepping back in time along the Kings’ Highway that once connected Albany and Schenectady, NY. Travelers on this sandy wagon road would stop for refreshment at several taverns along the route. One such tavern was kept by Isaac J. Truax. Although the structure of Mr. Truax’s tavern is now gone, the sandy open landscape he settled remains largely the same, carpeted with pitch pine, wild blue lupine, scrub oak, and blueberry.
Parking is available in small pull off to the east side of Kings Road.
