Madison Avenue Pinelands - Purple Trail
Distance: 3.7 miles
Trail Markers: Purple
Dense forests of pitch pine trees, which are evidence of past agricultural land use, once blanketed this region. These forests were recently thinned changing the habitat to more closely resemble the globally rare, wide open pitch pine-scrub oak barrens more typical throughout the area. Broad sandy trails provide an easy hike or ski over the rolling dunes. If you’re lucky, you may see pink lady slipper orchids blooming along the trailside in late May/early June. This trailhead serves as the beginning of the purple “through trail” connecting the trailhead to Guilderland’s DiCaprio Park.
Parking is available at the end of Madison Avenue along the dead end road.
