Karner Barrens - Blue Trail

Distance: 0.9 miles
Trail Markers: Blue

Starting at the Discovery Center, several miles of trails meander through the dunes and some of the best pitch pine-scrub oak barrens in the preserve. From the overlook dune on the blue trail, views on clear days include the Helderberg escarpment to the southwest and the Catskill mountains to the south. The trail leading under route 155 provides access to the Truax Trail Barrens where abandoned historical roads make up portions of the trail system. In late September, showy black, white, and orange inland pine barrens buckmoths can often be seen flying above the scrub oaks.

Parking for this trailhead is located at the Discovery Center parking lot.
