Hunger Kill Barrens

Portions of the Hunger Kill Barrens have been highly disturbed in anticipation of development, while other areas offer closed canopy forests of towering white pines, and riparian ravines adorned with Eastern hemlock, features not typically associated with the inland pine barrens ecosystem. The small meandering waterway followed by a portion of the blue loop, is the Hunger “Kill”, a Dutch term meaning creek. Look closely at the steep banks of the Hunger Kill ravine for wetland plants and lush ferns.

Parking is available at the end of DiBella Drive along the small sandy roadway.
